Nafti holds 21st Matriculation
The National Film and Television Institute(NAFTI) has held the 2019 Matriculation ceremony on Friday, November 29th to welcome freshmen and women to the University.
In all , 87 students have enrolled for the 2019/2020 academic year to pursue the various academic programmes in the University.
Rector of the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), Dr Samuel Anyetei Nai, in an address congratulated the freshmen and women for gaining admission into the University and stated the significance of matriculation as well as the university's expectations of students.
Dr Nai, encouraged the matriculants to contribute their quota to enhance the image of the University, to participate fully in all activities and be committed to their studies and desist from anything that will bring the image of the University into disrepute.
He further advised them , to always remember that they were admitted individually and they will graduate individually, so they should stick to the reason why they enrolled in the University, stay focused and channel their energies into the right direction. He told the matriculants that education comes with responsibility, so they must develop critical thinking and be analytical,not simply repeating what others have said. He added that they have an obligation to use their education to help others and become active citizens of their community and every community they will be a part of in the future
He mentioned that , Globalization is about building partnerships in this knowledge age.So the University has partnered with global institutions like Cilect an international film school since 1982, the school has MOU with Cannon to help improve photography and imagery in Ghana. NAFTI has also joined the film school network comprising Film students and professionals from Germany, Rwanda,South Africa, Nigeria and Ghana. He mentioned that, the school has trained many practicing film, television and media professionals for the African continent from Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, Swaziland, South Africa,Gambia, Nigeria etc
The Registrar representative of the University of Ghana, welcomed the students and administered the Matriculation Oath. Mr Kakra Opare-Siaw , a student from the film directing department signed the matricula on behalf of his colleague freshmen and women
The Matriculation ceremony was attended by the Board Chair and chairperson of ceremony, Madam Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, Special Guest of Honour, Dr Kweku Rockson , Deputy Director of GBC , Mr Ebenezer Ampaabeng, General Manager of Metro TV , Mr Nat Laryea , Registrar of the University of Ghana represented by Mrs Christie Badu and Mrs Bernice Tamakloe. The representative of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Dr Daniel Appiaagyei. Invited Guest , Dean of Studies,Heads of Department, Staff and Students. A number of parents and guardians also witnessed the ceremony.
