33 Lessons at 33
"Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life." — Steve Jobs
Turning 33 is a milestone that feels both surreal and empowering. As I reflect on the past three decades, I realize how much I’ve grown, how many lessons I’ve learned, and how much more there is to discover. Life, with all its twists and turns, has been an incredible teacher.
As I turn 33, I've reflected on 33 lessons that have shaped me, challenged me, and contributed to the person I am today.
1. Self-Love is Non-Negotiable
Loving myself has become the cornerstone of my existence. Without self-love, everything else falls apart.
2. Career Passion Isn’t Always Linear
My journey in media and journalism has been anything but straight. The detours, however, have led to some of the most fulfilling experiences.
3. Emotional Resilience is a Superpower
Life has a way of testing us. I’ve learned that bouncing back from life’s challenges is what truly defines strength.
4. Embrace Change
Life is constantly evolving, and resisting change only makes it harder. I’ve learned to go with the flow, even when it feels like everything is shifting beneath my feet.
5. Boundaries Protect My Peace
Setting boundaries isn’t about shutting people out; it’s about maintaining my mental and emotional well-being.
6. Trust the Timing of My Life
Everything happens in its own time. Rushing or forcing things has only ever led to frustration.
7. Quality Over Quantity in Relationships
I’ve learned that it’s better to have a few deep, meaningful connections than to spread myself thin trying to please everyone.
8. Self-Care is Essential
Whether it’s cooking, shopping, or simply enjoying the serenity of the beach, self-care is crucial for maintaining my balance.
9. Authenticity Attracts the Right People
Being true to myself has filtered out those who don’t belong in my life and drawn in those who do.
10. The Power of Writing
Writing has been my therapy, my voice, and my way of making sense of the world. It’s shown me that words can heal, inspire, and create change.
11. Embrace My Uniqueness
My experiences, struggles, and quirks make me who I am. I’ve learned to embrace them rather than trying to fit into someone else’s mold.
12. Forgiveness is for Me, Not Them
Holding onto grudges only hurts me. I’ve learned that forgiveness is about letting go of the burden, not condoning the behavior.
13. Life Isn’t a Race
There’s no rush to hit certain milestones by a certain age. Everyone’s journey is different, and comparing mine to others only brings unnecessary stress.
14. It’s Okay to Not Have All the Answers
At 33, I still have questions—about life, love, career, and everything in between. Embracing the uncertainty has brought a strange sense of peace.
15. Invest in Growth, Not Perfection
I’ve learned that striving for perfection is futile. Instead, focusing on growth and progress brings lasting fulfillment.
16. Celebrate Small Wins
Life is full of small victories that deserve recognition. I’ve learned to find joy in these moments, rather than waiting for the big ones.
17. Trust My Intuition
My gut feelings have often led me in the right direction, even when logic suggested otherwise. I’ve learned to trust them more as I’ve grown older.
18. Adaptability is Key
Life doesn’t always go according to plan. Being flexible and adapting to change has been a vital lesson in navigating its unpredictability.
19. Be True to Myself, Not Society's Expectations
Staying true to who I am, even when societal pressures say otherwise, has brought me more fulfillment than trying to conform ever did.
20. I Am Enough
This has been a tough lesson. I’ve often felt like I wasn’t enough, but I’ve come to realize that who I am, right now, is more than enough.
21. The Power of Genuine Connections
It’s not about how many people are in my life but the depth and quality of those relationships. I’ve learned that investing in genuine, supportive connections is far more rewarding than any superficial friendships.
22. Be My Own Advocate
In my career and personal life, I’ve learned the importance of standing up for myself, even when it’s uncomfortable.
23. Learning Never Stops
At 33, I’m still learning—about the world, others, and myself. Each day brings new lessons, and I’m ready for all of them.
24. Patience is a Virtue
Whether waiting for the right opportunity or for personal growth, I’ve learned that patience often brings the best outcomes.
25. Love is Complex
Love isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it—especially when it’s rooted in mutual respect and understanding.
26. I Am a Work in Progress
I’ve come to accept that I’m constantly evolving. I’m not a finished product, and that’s okay.
27. Gratitude Changes Everything
Focusing on what I have, rather than what I lack, has transformed my outlook on life.
28. Embrace Vulnerability
Opening up about my struggles has deepened my relationships and shown me that vulnerability is a strength.
29. It’s Okay to Walk Away
Sometimes, the bravest thing to do is walk away from situations or people that drain my energy.
30. Invest in My Passions
Pursuing what I love—whether it’s writing, media, or another passion—has brought me fulfillment that transcends material success.
31. Heartbreak is a Teacher
Heartbreak has taught me about resilience, self-worth, and the kind of love I deserve.
32. The Journey is as Important as the Destination
I’ve learned to appreciate every step of the way, not just the end goal. Each experience, good or bad, adds to my story.
33. I Define My Own Success
Success isn’t a one-size-fits-all concept. I’ve learned to measure it by my own standards, not by society’s expectations.
This is a reflection of the journey I’ve been on and the lessons that have shaped me. It’s a reminder that every year, every experience, and every challenge has contributed to the person I am today. Here’s to 33 and to all the wisdom and growth that the next years will bring.
