Adwoa Animah Casts Doubt on NFA Appointment — Political Reward or Right Choice?

The creative arts industry has been buzzing with new appointments, and it seems not everyone is clapping. Entertainment pundit and social media commentator Adwoa Animah has weighed in on the conversation, and let’s just say she did not hold back.

Speaking on AsaasePa 107.3’s Penpensiwa show with Obomengniibaa Nana Akua, Adwoa Animah questioned whether the appointment of actress Kafui Danku as the new Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA) was based on merit or political reward.

“I honestly cannot name two movies she has been in because I do not really know her in that space,” Adwoa said, expressing doubts about Kafui’s contributions to the film industry.

Adwoa Animah went on to suggest that Kafui’s strong political alignment with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) might have played a role in securing the position. “I would have been surprised if she did not get any appointment. She campaigned hard for the NDC and had several political banters online in support of the party,” she added.

She also drew comparisons between Kafui and her predecessor, Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante, who is known to be Harvard trained. This, according to Adwoa, raises questions about the expertise and credentials needed to lead an institution as significant as the NFA.

But Kafui is not the only name making headlines. President John Dramani Mahama’s creative arts appointments also include highlife legend Rex Omar as a Presidential Staffer overseeing the Black Star Experience initiative, fashion icon and media personality Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD) as Director of Diaspora Affairs, celebrated actor James Gardiner as Deputy Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority, and seasoned broadcaster Abeiku Santana as Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

As these new appointees take their seats, the big question remains: Are these appointments truly about expertise and vision for the industry, or are they political rewards? The industry and the audience will be watching closely.
